WW2 POLAND
The awareness of Elżbieta Zawacka, known as "Agent Zo" has leapt up since author Clare Mulley published her biography in 2024. Already a fan of hers from her books on Krystyna Skarbek, Hanna Reitsch and Melitta von Stauffenberg, I attended a launch party for "Agent Zo: The Untold Story of Fearless WW II Resistance Fighter Elżbieta Zawacka" at the Imperial War Museum, London. Meeting Clare, chatting to her and then watching her address a crowd with the utmost enthusiasm had me deciding that yes, we need to make Zo happen. So this miniature is a thanks to Clare Mulley, for inspiring me, and countless others through her research and writing.
Growing up in a German-speaking area of Poland, little did anybody know that Elżbieta's fluent language skills would be part of what made the perfect secret agent. During the course of the war she worked for a variety of organisations, her ability to pass through places unseen being invaluable. Her story will have you on the edge of your seat as she manages to talk and act her way out of so many situations that you feel must lead to certain death, yet she passed peacefully aged 99.
Her journey takes her through Germany, France, Spain, Gibraltar, UK and then she stopped because she was safe there. Not really! She insisted on going back to Poland to continue the frontline fight for her people, and in 1943 parachuted into her home country, which was occupied territory.
We've shown her in our mini at the moment she's landed and is peeling off her layers ready to disappear into the streets as a standarad civilian, in her pretty blue dress. After she's buried all the stuff of course. It doesn't end there, she joins the Warsaw Uprising, then travels to Krakow and how the heck am I supposed to fit all this in.
She is very cool!
The pack consists of one single piece miniature, cast in high quality pewter. 28mm scale, supplied unpainted.
