WW2 FRANCE
Odette Samson (also goes by Churchill or Hallowes) was an SOE agent - meaning she worked for the British - in occupied France. Being French herself it was easier for her to blend in (no stumbling on the right words!) and she couriered for the Spindle Network. This was headed by Peter Churchill - remember that name!
They were captured after being tricked by a double agent, I find it important to include that in this situation if you couldn't even trust the people you were working with, which must have been a very lonely time. After awful interrogation by the Gestapo, Odette was sent to Ravensbrück where fortunately, unlike many of her counterparts - her story didn't end.
Odette convinced them that Peter Churchill was the Nephew of Winston himself, and she, his wife, knew nothing of these"men's tasks". This ensured their survival as they were kept on the offchance they could be valuable later. When Ravensbrück fell, the commandant grabbed her and drove out, she was terrified until she discovered they were driving out to meet the Americans. He was using her a plea bargain. She took his gun and went home.
