WW2 GERMANY
Hans and Sophie Scholl were members of the White Rose, a resistance group centered on spreading information to the German population to increase rebellion and dissatisfaction with the government and their actions.
We've shown them mucking around while leafleting, as I wanted to reflect how young they are and that they're siblings. They're more than automatons of resistance, they're human beings with emotions, passions and interests. These figures from history can be thought of as superhuman some times, when they were the same flesh and blood as us, just doing extraordinary actions because it had to be done.
The flyers contain information that had been censored by the Nazi government alongside their calls to action for people to rise up. Eventually they were caught and executed (via guillotine). The RAF came across the flyers and airdropped them across several places, spreading the messages even further than they could have dreamt.
Resistance isn't always with pistols and gadgets, the pen can be mightier than the sword, and the project involves a mixture of violent and non violent methods of resistance. And hopefully shows the humanity and personality of the people featured.
